Hi. I am Annette - farmer, immigrant and frequent flyer of Alberta’s healthcare system. Like many who now call the town of Peace River home, I came for work, drank the water (its a legend) and 20+ years am still here!
Despite our far northern Alberta location (and perceived ideological bent) Peace River has had waves of immigrants heed the call of the north, and stay to build community. You can see these cultural flavours threaded through the community in the Ukrainian Dance troupe that travels the province, Scottish Highland dancers, Francophone winter festival, Lebanese donairs, bubble tea, places of worship of all faiths, and by listening to the different languages heard spoken in the local stores. Suffice to say - wherever you are from, you will fit in and find folks akin.
The beauty of the Peace River valley is something to behold and the first glimpse of the river and the vast valley it has carved still takes my breath away after all these years.
The town has all the services and stores (even a movie theatre) of a larger centre, yet has a small town community feel where you run into people you know out and about.
We would be sooo glad for you to consider moving to our area - there is great need for trained healthcare workers of every description - and if your talent and skill are beyond our towns scope, we would encourage you to look into Grande Prairie or Edmonton where bigger hospitals also serve all of us Northerners.

Afterall - you can work anywhere, but its where you live and what you do outside of work that makes life worth living up here.

The other cool thing to know, is that all across Canada you will find people who once called Peace River home, and the threads of our small northern community are woven into the fabric of this vast nation. One of those threads is what connected me to Tod - my BFF and her family moved to Nanaimo BC (where Tod is based) and now works in Island Health and the broader Island medical community - as have a number of doctors who once cared for us here. So I know their need is also great - we just wish you might start your Canadian life here in Peace River.
